Should you rent unfurnished property or not

When looking for that special rental apartment, there are a wide range of decisions which you will need to make.  You have finalized the budget, the location is just about perfect and you have started looking through what is available.  When looking at apartments, you will notice that of them are unfurnished, but that there are also a few which are furnished.  The question is: What is the best choice and how does this affect your decision?

Well, your individual circumstance has to be taken into account here; there is no strict correct or incorrect answer. So, once more, you need to look at yourself and decide what the best option for you is.  It may be that you have no furniture; if this is the case, you ought to go for the furnished property. Of course, if you prefer getting an unfurnished place and buying/bringing your own furniture, this would also be a great choice for you. On the other hand, you might have everything you need, and for this reason, there is no scope for you to look at a furnished place.

So, what exactly does furnished mean? To some, furnished is a complete set of furnishings throughout the living space; from the television to the bed.  Everything you need should be there.  To others, it is minimal furnishings with certain things provided like a suite, but excludes electrical appliances like a television.   Therefore, you will need to establish what is on offer and what is not.

On the plus side, a furnished property does give you scope to raise some cash.  If there is everything you need in the apartment you are about to rent, you could sell your unwanted gear for a good price.  The only problem is, if you move and one day look to own your own place, you will have to pay a small fortune to get what you need.  So, your long term plans need to be taken into account.  Then there is the cost of breakages. If you accidentally break something in the apartment, you will have to replace it. If you contract runs out soon, the bad thing about this is that you may never even use it.

When choosing between a furnished, and unfurnished apartment, it all boils down to the individual.  Your circumstances will dictate whether it is worth storing or selling your personal items to move into the furnished apartment, or whether you can actually afford to furnish the unfurnished one.
